Abductors of Dr Erubu, Ilorin Emirate Chief demand N60m ransom

Abductors of the retired Permanent Secretary in Kwara State, Dr Zubair Oba Erubu, have reportedly reached out to his family, demanding N60million as ransom.

It was learnt on Sunday that the men of the underworld did not give room for negotiation but insisted that the money be paid to secure his release from captivity.

A member of his family, who craved anonymity, told journalist in confidence that the abductors contacted the family on Friday night, saying that the sad incident has caused a traumatic experience for them.

“The abductors had reached out to us on Friday night. They demanded a sum of N60million ransom before they can set Dr Erubu free. They did not even wait for negotiation before ending the phone call.

“This is a terrible moment for us and its traumatic. We just pray that they do not harm Doctor. We are trusting Almighty Allah that he would be released soon without any problem”, the source said.

Erubu, who is also the Magaji Erubu of Ilorin Emirate, is spending the fourth day in kidnappers’ den after his abduction at gunpoint last Thursday’s night.

He was said to be returning from Ilorin metropolis to retire at his Ago-Oja residence when the kidnappers struck and seized him.

Eburu was said to be in Ilorin earlier on the fateful day to attend to a patient, who was undergoing treatment in his private hospital located in Balogun Fulani Area of Ilorin.

The state police command could not be reached for comment as of the time of filing this report on Saturday evening.

But the command had confirmed the abduction of the retired permanent secretary in a terse statement issued in Ilorin on Friday.

Spokesman of the command, Ajayi Okasanmi, a Superintendent of Police, said the Commissioner of Police, Tuesday Assayomo, had directed a rescue operation to ensure timely release of the victim from the kidnappers’ den.

“The kidnap incident is confirmed. The commissioner of police, CP Tuesday Assayomo has ordered a discreet investigation, rescue and arrest of the kidnappers immediately he got the information”, Okasanmi said.
