ARD-UITH provides free medical, surgical services to over 900 patients in Kwara

Medical outreach by doctors

The Association of Resident Doctors, University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital ARD-UITH, has offered free medical and surgical services to about 925 patients in Offa Local Government Area of Kwara.

Speaking at the sidelines of the medical services, Dr Badmus Habeeb, the President of ARD-UITH, in Offa, explained that the medical outreach is part of the activities marking the 38th Annual General Meeting and Scientific Conference of the association.

He listed some of the common ailment of the patients detected to includes upper respiratory tract infections, malaria and body pain among others.

He noted that the patients with more serious ailments will be referred to the UITH for further diagnosis and treatment.

According to him, the medical and surgical services is free of charge as members contribute to ensure they reach out to the indigent.

He also said well meaning organisation contributed to the association in offering the service.

Speaking also, Dr Dele Abdullahi, the Vice- President of UITH-ARD explained that the free medical outreach includes medical, surgical and ophthalmological services.

“We have about 850 patients with medical needs, 35 patients with surgical needs, 20 patients with ophthalmological needs and 20 with dental needs,” he said.

He commended the Offa community for their support toward the outreach, adding that the Offa General Hospital would he used for some of the surgical intervention.

Dr Solagbade Remi, of the Department of Surgery, UITH explained that they performed surgery on cases of Hernia procedure, Breast lump, Dental procedures such as extraction of teeth and filling and cataract surgery among others.(NAN)
