NSCDC Arrests Two Over Alleged Transformer Cable Vandalism In Ilorin

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, has arrested two young men over the alleged vandalisation of transformer cables and other electricity infrastructure in the Tanke-Iledu area of Ilorin.

The suspects, identified as 20-year-old Nurah Abdullahi, popularly known as Hartabo, and 23-year-old Sherif Abdullahi, were arrested on October 5, 2026, following credible intelligence received by the command.

The NSCDC said its operatives acted on the intelligence and carried out an intelligence-led operation that resulted in the arrest of the suspects.

Items recovered during the operation and subsequent search included vandalised transformer cables, outer and inner cable peels, a Bajaj motorcycle, a saw, a knife and a pair of electrical gloves.

According to the command, preliminary investigation showed that the suspects were allegedly linked to the vandalisation of electricity infrastructure within the Tanke-Iledu community.

The NSCDC said efforts were ongoing to track down other persons suspected to be involved in the alleged activities.

Kwara State Commandant, Abbas Ndah Mohammed, commended the operatives for their vigilance and professionalism, stressing that the command would not allow the state to become a haven for vandals and economic saboteurs.

Mohammed said the command would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations to protect critical national infrastructure and safeguard public assets across the state.

He warned those involved in the vandalisation of public infrastructure to desist, saying such acts pose a threat to public safety and the socio-economic wellbeing of residents.

The command said the suspects would be charged to court after the completion of investigation and establishment of a prima facie case, in accordance with the law.
