The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has called on the corps members deployed to Bauchi state to uphold patriotism, discipline and obedience to the rules governing the scheme throughout their service year.

Mr. Umoren Kufre, the Bauchi State Coordinator of NYSC, made the call in Bauchi on Friday, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members at the permanent orientation camp in the state.

He said the orientation course was designed to prepare corps members mentally, physically and psychologically for the challenges they might encounter during their period of national service.

According to him, activities lined up for the orientation exercise include paramilitary drills, citizenship and leadership training, physical training, lectures, skill acquisition and entrepreneurship development.

Kufre expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the prospective corps members since their arrival at the orientation camp, saying there had been no serious incident and that the corps members had actively participated in camp activities.

“I have also observed with delight the display of humility, patriotism, loyalty and commitment of the prospective corps members since they arrived in the orientation camp.

“This is an indication that they are ready to serve their fatherland,” he said.

He urged the corps members to strictly obey the rules and regulations of the camp and avoid taking the law into their own hands whenever they encountered challenges.

“In case you notice any irregularity, do not take the laws into your hands; always ensure that you follow the proper channel of communication to express your grievances,” he advised.

The coordinator assured the corps members that the NYSC management would continue to provide the basic amenities required at the camp, stressing that their safety and comfort remained a priority.

Kufre also commended Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state for his continued support for the NYSC scheme in the state.

He particularly appreciated the governor for his regular donation of three bulls to corps members during orientation exercises, as well as his commitment to their welfare and security.

In his speech, Gov. Bala Mohammed, who was represented by Hon. Bashir Ya’u, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, called on the corps members to take the lead and advocate for national development and transformation.

He urged them to take the noble call with utmost seriousness and commit themselves to achieving the scheme’s objective of national unity and development.

“I encourage you to start contemplating the initiation of meaningful Community Development Service projects in your areas of primary assignment right from the camp.

“I believe this should occupy your thoughts and prevent you from engaging in inappropriate behaviors while in camp and during your service,” said the governor.

Justice Rabi Umar, the Chief Judge of the state who was represented by Justice S.S Sabo conducted the swearing-in exercise for the 1,700 corps members posted to the state.
