Kwara CP Charges Students on Vigilance as PCRC Safe Schools Donates Buses, CCTV Cameras to Schools

The Commissioner of Police in Kwara State, CP Ojo Adekimi, has urged students across the state to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities as part of efforts to strengthen security in and around schools.

Adekimi made the call in Ilorin while speaking with students during a Police Community Relations Committee Safe Schools intervention, where buses and Closed-Circuit Television cameras were donated to selected schools in the state.

The Commissioner, who emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in maintaining a safe learning environment, encouraged the students to adopt the security principle of “If you see something, say something.”

He advised them to remain alert both within and outside their school environments and to report suspicious movements or activities to their teachers, school authorities, parents or security agencies.

The CP also cautioned the students against involvement in social vices and other activities capable of threatening their safety, education and future, stressing the need for discipline, vigilance and responsible conduct.

The intervention was organised under the PCRC Safe Schools programme, an initiative of the Police Community Relations Committee aimed at strengthening security awareness and improving safety infrastructure in schools through collaboration between the police, communities and educational institutions.

The national Safe Schools programme includes school safety awareness, police-community collaboration and the deployment of surveillance systems such as CCTV cameras.

In his opening remarks, Mallam Sulyman Yerima Sulu Gambari, a retired Principal Officer of the Department of State Security Services, the Convener of the PCRC Safe Schools programme expressed appreciation to the Nigeria Police Force and other stakeholders for supporting the initiative.

 

 

He urged the beneficiary schools to ensure that the facilities provided were properly maintained and used for the purpose for which they were donated.

The Convener also stressed the importance of strengthening security consciousness among students, teachers and school administrators, noting that effective school security requires the cooperation of all stakeholders.

Representing the National President of the PCRC, Alhaji Uthman Jagunma commended the Convener and other organisers for the initiative, describing the intervention as a positive contribution to the safety and development of children.

Jagunma urged individuals, organisations and other stakeholders to emulate initiatives capable of making a positive impact on society, particularly those targeted at protecting children and improving the learning environment.

The beneficiary schools include United Community Primary and Secondary School, Sheikh Abdulsalam School and Model Primary School, all in Ilorin.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary institutions, the principals expressed appreciation to the Kwara State Police Command, the PCRC and the Convener of the Safe Schools programme for the intervention.

They said the provision of buses and CCTV cameras would complement existing efforts by the schools to improve security and create a safer environment for teaching and learning.

The development comes as the PCRC continues to expand its Safe Schools programme nationwide. The committee announced plans earlier in 2026 to mobilise 10,000 volunteers and deploy CCTV cameras to vulnerable schools across Nigeria in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force and other stakeholders.
