Kwara Poly Expels 42 Students Over Examination Malpractice

The management of Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, has expelled 42 students over alleged examination malpractice.

The affected students include 31 Higher National Diploma and 11 National Diploma students from various institutes and programmes.

The decision was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Principal Assistant Registrar, Academic Board Matters Division, Ibrahim Esin.

According to Esin, the students were investigated by the institution’s Examination Malpractice Committee and found guilty of allegations against them.

“The offences contravened the Matriculation Oath sworn to by the students upon admission into the institution,” he said.

He added that the expulsions were approved in line with the provisions of the Polytechnic’s Students’ Handbook, effectively ending the students’ relationship with the institution.

A breakdown shows the Institute of Finance and Management Studies recorded the highest number with 23 students expelled. The Institute of Technology followed with eight, Institute of Information and Communication Technology with four, Institute of Health Technology with two, Institute of General Studies with one, and Centre for Continuing Education with four.

The affected students were from programmes including Mechatronics Engineering, Civil Engineering, Strategic Communication, Journalism and Media Studies, Public Administration, Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Accountancy, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Medical Imaging Technology, among others.

Some of the expelled HND students named are Rasaq Faruq Tolani, Adebiyi Eniola Kofoworola, Nzekwe Domic Chibuike, Adekunle Khalid Boluwatife, Raji Abdulhafeez Opeyemi and Magbagbeola Rofiat Adesewa.

ND students affected include Ayinde Aishat, Ekunnus Fridays Sunmisola, Sanusi Fathia Ayomide and Ameenulah Idris Olamilekan.

The management directed the expelled students to return all polytechnic property in their possession to their respective Heads of Department or other designated authorities.
