FG Deploys New Army Battalions to Omu-Aran, Patigi to Crush Banditry, Kidnapping

 

The Kwara State Government has welcomed the deployment of additional Nigerian Army troops to Omu-Aran and other parts of the state, describing the move as a major boost to efforts to tackle banditry, kidnapping and other security challenges.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq disclosed this yesterday while speaking with journalists during a military parade held in his honour as the newly deployed troops arrived in Omu-Aran.

AbdulRazaq said the deployment was in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to strengthening internal security and protecting residents across the country.

He said the arrival of the troops demonstrated the seriousness attached to improving security in Kwara, assuring that the state government would provide the necessary support for the new formations to settle down and commence operations effectively.

“We came to address them and welcome them to Omu-Aran, appreciate what they are doing and appreciate the Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, President Bola Tinubu,” the governor said.

The governor explained that five new battalions had been approved for Kwara, while the brigade currently stationed in the state would be relocated to Bode Saadu.

He also disclosed that arrangements were underway for the establishment of another battalion in Patigi, following a visit by military personnel to identify and prepare a suitable location.

The governor welcomed the establishment of Division 9 of the Nigerian Army in Kwara, saying the presence of the General Officer Commanding the division was an indication that the new military structure was already taking shape.

“This is a call for duty. This is internal security. It is beyond the normal conventional warfare and the military is trained to adapt. We believe they will adapt and do their duty as needed,” AbdulRazaq said.

He expressed confidence that the expanded military presence would significantly strengthen security across the state.

“Everything is set to go. Kwara State is going to be protected completely by the military. We appreciate the deployment,” he added.

AbdulRazaq further disclosed that the state government had provided a welfare package to assist the newly deployed personnel in settling into their new environment.

He, however, noted that President Tinubu’s recent approval of improved salaries and welfare packages for military personnel was a more significant step towards boosting the morale of officers and men serving the country.

According to him, the state government’s welfare intervention was only a modest contribution to support the troops as they commence their security responsibilities in Omu-Aran and other parts of Kwara.

The governor urged the troops to remain focused, confident and committed to their assignment, stressing that the state would continue to collaborate with the military and other security agencies to safeguard lives and property.
