Rector Describes Agriculture as Key to Economic Growth, Commends Students at Food Exhibition

The Rector, Kwara State Polytechnic, Engr. Dr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed has reaffirmed the importance of the agricultural sector, describing it as one of the most viable pathways for sustainable economic growth and employment generation in the country.

The Rector disclosed this during an inspection of a vibrant food exhibition organized by the Polytechnic’s Institute of Agriculture. The event showcased a wide array of agricultural products, highlighting the complete journey of food production from raw farm produce to processed consumable goods.

Visibly impressed by the quality and diversity of items on display, the Rector praised the students for their ingenuity. He commended them for effectively translating theoretical classroom knowledge into practical, tangible solutions.

Addressing the students, Engr. Abdul congratulated those pursuing agriculture-related courses for acquiring skills that could make them self-reliant and successful entrepreneurs upon graduation.

He further encouraged the students to expand their horizons by exploring emerging opportunities within the sector, specifically highlighting areas such as biogas production and integrated farming systems.

To further promote agricultural products and generate income for the institution, the Rector suggested the establishment of a regular weekly farm produce market on campus.

Earlier, during a tour of the exhibition stands, the Director of the Institute of Agriculture, Dr. Banjoko Ibrahim provided insight into the initiative. He explained that all the products on display were the exclusive handiwork of the students, who participated in every stage of production, from cultivation on the institution’s farm to the final stages of processing and packaging.

The exhibition, held on the campus grounds, featured a diverse range of food items that were produced, processed, and packaged by the students. These items were made available for sale, underscoring the students’ practical skills and their strong entrepreneurial potential within the agricultural sector.
