APC Rift in Kwara Deepens as Orisun Igbomina Calls for Urgent Peace Talks Ahead of 2027

A socio-cultural and political advocacy group, Orisun Igbomina, has expressed concern over the deepening crisis in the Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), warning that the party could jeopardise its electoral prospects in the 2027 general elections if urgent reconciliation efforts are not undertaken.

The group said the emergence of the G15 Coalition has exposed widening discontent within the ruling party and should serve as a wake-up call for the APC leadership to address lingering grievances before they escalate further.

In a statement signed by its National President, Chief Gbenga Awoyale, Orisun Igbomina noted that the coalition comprises prominent party stakeholders, including governorship aspirants, serving senators, members of the National Assembly, members of the Kwara State House of Assembly, party elders, and women and youth leaders.

According to the group, the coalition’s recent solidarity rally underscored its growing grassroots support and reflected widespread dissatisfaction among many party faithful over the current state of affairs within the APC in Kwara.

Awoyale warned that the party was drifting towards a serious internal crisis that could weaken its chances in the 2027 elections if differences among key stakeholders were allowed to fester.

He said the prolonged rift could strengthen the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) while threatening the APC’s hold on the governorship, legislative seats and other political gains achieved through the 2019 “O TO GE” political movement.

“The party is gradually becoming a house on fire because major stakeholders are choosing confrontation instead of dialogue,” Awoyale said.

He urged Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to demonstrate statesmanship by convening an inclusive meeting with leaders of the G15 Coalition and other critical stakeholders to resolve outstanding grievances and rebuild confidence within the party.

Awoyale also called for transparent, credible and inclusive APC primary elections ahead of the 2027 polls, insisting that candidates should emerge through a fair and democratic process devoid of imposition.

He further supported calls for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene in the crisis to facilitate lasting peace within the Kwara APC.

The Orisun Igbomina president appealed to all factions in the party to suspend further confrontational rallies and embrace dialogue in the collective interest of preserving the unity and electoral strength of the APC.

“Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq must understand that no one wins an election in isolation. He needs the support of every stakeholder. The time for pride is over; the time for statesmanship is now. We must choose the path of unity and victory over the path of implosion and defeat,” he said.

Awoyale reaffirmed Orisun Igbomina’s commitment to the APC, stressing that the party’s continued dominance in Kwara would depend on genuine reconciliation, inclusiveness and collective leadership.
