Ilorin Cult Attack Leaves Four Dead as Police Arrest Two Suspects
The Kwara State Police Command has condemned a deadly shooting linked to suspected cult activity in Ilorin, where four people were killed and two others sustained gunshot injuries during an attack on Sunday night.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, ANIPR, the incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on 14th June 2026 at the Post Office area of Ilorin, when armed men stormed a bamboo bar near the railway line and opened fire on people gathered there before fleeing the scene.
“Police operatives responded swiftly to the distress call and rushed the victims to the Police Clinic. Unfortunately, four were confirmed dead by medical personnel, while two others are currently receiving treatment,” the statement said.
Preliminary investigation by the Command indicates that the attack is cult-related. Following swift intelligence-led operations, two suspects believed to be members of a notorious cult group linked to the shooting have been arrested.
The Command disclosed that the suspects are currently in custody and assisting investigators with useful information that could lead to the arrest of other fleeing members of the gang.
Security operatives, including tactical and intelligence teams, have also been deployed to track down all those involved.
The Commissioner of Police, Kwara State Command, CP Ojo Adekimi, psc, mnips, described the incident as senseless and unacceptable, vowing that those behind the attack would face justice.
“This act of violence is a serious threat to public peace and will not be tolerated. We are committed to ensuring that every individual connected to this crime is arrested and prosecuted,” he said.
The Police Command extended condolences to the families of the deceased and wished the injured victims a quick recovery, while urging residents to remain calm and support ongoing investigations with credible information.
Authorities assured that measures have been intensified to prevent further breakdown of law and order in the state.
