Three Suspects Arrested as Police Warn Against Political Violence Ahead of June 20 Poll

 

In a statement by the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abutu Sunday, the command said preliminary investigation revealed that on Tuesday, at about 9:00 p.m., three Hilux vehicles carrying armed men in camouflage uniforms allegedly intercepted the LCDA chairman and Mr. Ajayi along Anoye Street, Ikere-Ekiti.

The victims were reportedly taken to the premises of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate for the June 20, 2026 election, Dr. Wole Oluyede, where they were allegedly assaulted before being released.

Police said three suspects have been arrested in connection with the incident and are being investigated, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend others at large. The command said suspects would be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.

CP Adegoroye called for calm and pledged that no effort would be spared to ensure justice is served. He warned citizens, particularly political party supporters, against taking the law into their hands or inciting violence.

The command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety, justice, fairness, rule of law, professionalism, and respect for the rights of all citizens, especially as the June 20 governorship election approaches.
