Kwara Fire Service Prevents Major Damage, Contains Fire Outbreak in Ilorin

The Kwara State Fire Service has successfully contained a fire outbreak at No. 6 Kutashi Compound, Omoda, in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State.

According to a statement signed and issued by PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, MBA, PRO/Head of Media Unit, for the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, the incident occurred on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m.

The statement explained that the affected property was a storey building comprising about eight-bedroom flats, with only one room damaged by the fire.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the fire was triggered by a power surge, which ignited combustible materials inside the affected room.

The Fire Service noted that the swift intervention and professionalism of its firefighters helped to contain the fire quickly, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building and nearby properties.

Residents of the community reportedly commended the firefighters for their prompt response and timely arrival at the scene, which helped to curtail the fire before it escalated into a major disaster.

Speaking on the incident, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Alabi Muhammed, urged members of the public to always contact the Fire Service immediately whenever a fire outbreak occurs.

He stressed that many fire incidents become devastating because people often delay emergency calls while trying to extinguish the fire themselves or fail to notify emergency responders on time.

The Director further advised residents to report fire outbreaks at their early stages, noting that prompt reporting increases the chances of saving lives and property while reducing the extent of damage.

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Kwara State Fire Service to protecting lives and property through rapid emergency response and continuous public enlightenment on fire safety.
