Kwara 2027: God Inspired My Governorship Ambition, Says Dr Toyin Alabi

A frontline governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara State, Dr. Oluwatoyin Tajudeen Alabi, has said his decision to join the 2027 governorship race was inspired by divine direction following years of humanitarian service and community leadership.

Dr. Alabi made the disclosure during an engagement with leaders and members of the National Coalition of APC Support Groups for Local Government Officials (NACLFON) in Ilorin.

According to him, he never considered venturing into partisan politics, having neither occupied public office nor actively participated in politics before now.

He explained that the inspiration to contest emerged shortly after the completion of his tenure as a community leader on December 28, 2024, when he reflected on his stewardship and expressed gratitude to God.

“I served my people wholeheartedly and with everything I had. After handing over as community leader and thanking God for a successful assignment, I received what I believe was a divine instruction to prepare for a greater assignment,” he said.

Dr. Alabi said he was initially surprised by what he described as God’s call to aspire to the office of Governor of Kwara State.

“I laughed like Sarah in the Bible because I had never been involved in politics or held public office. I only supported candidates financially and morally with the little resources available to me,” he added.

The APC aspirant cited several Bible passages which, according to him, strengthened his conviction about the mission.

Referencing 2 Chronicles 30:12, he said he believed God would grant him “the heart of the people” to fulfil a divine purpose in the state, while Isaiah 54:4 encouraged him not to fear joining the race.

Dr. Alabi further disclosed that he later sought spiritual confirmation through prayers and consultations with clerics within and outside Kwara State, including associates at Orike Abiye in Ede, Osun State.

According to him, although the prayer session was planned to last several days, another scriptural message from Isaiah 55:4 convinced him that the direction was clear.

“When I heard the word again, I told those with me to pack their bags because God had spoken clearly,” he said.

The governorship hopeful urged Christians and members of NACLFON to support what he described as “God’s agenda” for Kwara State, noting that the vision was aimed at bringing development, prosperity and relief to the people.

He stressed that politics should not be viewed as a mere business venture or a do-or-die affair, but as a platform for service and transformation.

“Some politicians see politics as a game or business, but I see it as an assignment to help address poverty, mismanagement and underdevelopment while consolidating on the achievements of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq,” he said.

Dr. Alabi also called on stakeholders across the state to unite towards addressing insecurity, economic hardship and infrastructural challenges.

While appreciating national and state leaders of NACLFON, including Professor Abraham Olanrewaju and Bishop David Omorinoye, for their support, he lamented what he described as the absence of a clear developmental vision for the state.

“A nation without vision will perish, and this may be responsible for the challenges confronting the state,” he stated.

Outlining his development blueprint, Dr. Alabi promised to construct a ring road linking the three senatorial districts to stimulate economic growth and improve connectivity across Kwara State.

He also pledged to prioritise security, agriculture, education, healthcare, infrastructure, tourism and inclusive economic development through a proposed seven-point agenda.

“A greater Kwara is possible, and together we can make it happen,” he said.

Responding Bishop David Omorinoye, the leader of the group in Kwara State, said the endorsement aligned with what he described as “God’s agenda” for the state.

He urged APC members and residents of the state to rally behind Dr. Alabi, stressing that the aspirant’s vision reflects the yearnings of the people for purposeful leadership, economic growth and social transformation.

“Kwara people desire a leader with compassion, integrity and capacity.

“Dr. Alabi has demonstrated these qualities over the years through his service to humanity and commitment to community development,” Bishop Omorinoye said.
