Kwara Police Recover Stolen Toyota Matrix in Ilorin Using Tracking Technology

The Kwara State Police Command has recorded another operational success with the recovery of a stolen Toyota Matrix in Ilorin, following the use of modern vehicle tracking and immobilisation technology.
The Command disclosed that the incident was reported on April 27, 2026, at about 2:00pm at the Anti-Car Theft Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, after the vehicle was stolen around 11:00am from a parking area at Mandate Market.
Acting swiftly on the report, police operatives activated an integrated tracking system linked to the vehicle’s security device, enabling real-time location monitoring and remote engine shutdown. This led officers to the Jebba Expressway axis, where the vehicle was found abandoned by the roadside.
Preliminary investigations showed that the suspects attempted to obstruct identification by tampering with the registration number. However, the original plate number was later recovered near the scene.
The recovered vehicle has since been secured at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Ilorin, while efforts continue to track down and apprehend the suspects involved.
The Kwara State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to intelligence-led and technology-driven policing in combating vehicle theft and other crimes across Kwara State.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, said the use of modern tracking technology significantly improved response time and enabled the swift recovery of the vehicle.
She added that the Command remains committed to ensuring the safety of lives and property across Ilorin and its environs.
