Tragedy: Gunmen kill two in Oro-Ago, residents send SOS to Deputy Governor

Tension has gripped Oro-Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State following a deadly attack by suspected bandits that left two residents dead and a local security chief injured.
The Wednesday evening invasion, which occurred in the hometown of Kwara State Deputy Governor Kayode Alabi, has sparked outrage among residents who are now demanding urgent government intervention to halt the growing insecurity in the area.
Eyewitness accounts revealed that the gunmen stormed the community in large numbers, shooting sporadically and moving from house to house while attacking residents.
The attackers were also said to have attempted an assault on a nearby police station, although details of the incident remain sketchy.
A key figure in the community’s vigilante structure, the Olu-òde, was reportedly shot in the arm during the attack and is currently receiving medical attention.
One resident who narrowly escaped death described the incident as terrifying and coordinated.
“We are calling on all Oro-Ago indigenes, both at home and abroad. War has started in Oro-Ago. It was only God that saved me; I would have been a victim,” the resident said.
Another resident appealed directly to the authorities for immediate security deployment.
“The terrorists have killed people in Oro-Ago. We are begging the government to bring soldiers. This situation is not a small thing. They broke our doors and entered houses one after the other,” he said.

The attack has heightened fears across Kwara South, with locals warning that several communities are already under threat or have been deserted due to repeated invasions.
In a desperate call for help, another resident urged the deputy governor to take swift action to save his hometown.
“We are calling on the deputy governor not to sleep. Your fatherland is being destroyed while you are in Ilorin. Help us. Call on Sunday Igboho to come and rescue us,” the resident said.
Communities said to have been affected or abandoned include Ahun, Oke-Oyan, Ago-Olomo, Ajegunle and Oke-Daba, as residents continue to flee to safer locations.
The latest incident comes amid rising concerns over security in the Kwara South Senatorial District, especially following intelligence reports of planned coordinated attacks in the area.
Security sources had earlier indicated that suspected terrorists were plotting simultaneous attacks on Ifelodun, Irepodun and Isin local government areas on March 23 and March 28, 2026.
In a statement issued last Saturday, Elder Oyin-Zubair confirmed that relevant authorities, including the Kwara State Police Command and local government chairmen, had been notified of the looming threat.
“In view of the speculative bandits attacks on March 23, 2026 and March 28, authorities including Kwara State Police Command, chairmen of Ifelodun, Irepodun and Isin LGAs, and other security agencies have been notified and are taking necessary precautions to protect citizens,” the statement read.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements.
As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Government and security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the Oro-Ago attack, leaving residents in fear as uncertainty continues to mount over safety in the region.
