The Nigeria League of Women Voters (NILOWV) has urged Nigerian women to increase political participation in order to claim the Reserve Seats at the national and State levels.
The Kwara State Chairperson of NILOWV, Hajia Bilqis Oladimeji stated this on Wednesday in Ilorin while speaking during a courtesy visit paid to Hon. Rukayat Shittu, the Representive of Owode/Onire constituency, at Kwara House of Assembly.
While commending Shittu on her feat in the House, Oladimeji stated that the visit is to seek partnership on amplifying women’s voice and political participation in Kwara and Nigeria as a whole.
According to her, the mandate of NILOWV is to empower Nigerian women politically and economically toward national development.
“The League seeks to srengthen women’s leadership, enhancing women’s participation in political parties and governance,” she said.
Oladimeji lamented that despite constitutional provisions allocating seats for women in the National Assembly, many of these positions often go unfilled or are not effectively utilized.
She insisted that it’s high time Nigerian women take their rightful place in politics.
Similarly, she observed that the recent e-regiatration in Kwara is posing a challenge to women while appealing to the State government to look into the matter.
In her reaction, Hon. Rukayat Shittu, the Representive of Owode/Onire constituency, Asa Local Government Area expressed readiness to partner with platforms that champion the cause of women’s political development.
Shittu pointed out that women must ensure that they take their rightful place researched for them at the National an State level.
She advised NILOWV to increase tempo on advocacy partnership and voter education for women folks across the State. (NAN)
