Kwara Assembly Approves N656.6 Billion Budget for 2026, Surpassing Governor’s Proposal

The Kwara State House of Assembly has approved a N656,595,559,298.49 budget for 2026, marking a slight increase over the figure initially presented by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.
The decision followed the presentation of the report of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation on the 2026 appropriation bill during plenary on Friday.
The report was presented by the committee’s chairperson, Arinola Fatimoh Lawal, under the leadership of Speaker Engr Yakubu Danladi Salihu.
Governor AbdulRazaq had submitted N646,004,816,893 as the state’s budget estimate in December 2025. The House’s approval represents a growth of N10,590,742,405, reflecting adjustments made during legislative scrutiny.
Commenting on the approval, Speaker Salihu emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to ensuring that the budget addresses critical sectors and improves the welfare of Kwara residents.
“This budget is a blueprint for development, and our approval is aimed at enhancing service delivery, infrastructure, and social programmes across the state,” Salihu said.
The approved budget now paves the way for implementation in the 2026 fiscal year, with expectations that the additional allocation will strengthen key projects and initiatives.
