15th Convocation: Al-Hikmah University to churn out 2,883 graduates, 76 bag first class

Nigeria’s first Islamic faith-based university, Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State, has produced 76 first-class graduates out of 2,883 total graduating students in its 15th convocation Ceremony.
Professor Lateef Oladimeji, the Vice-Chancellor, Al-Hikmah University, has disclosed that 2,833 graduands will be awarded various degrees with 76 bagging first class at its 15th Convocation Ceremony slated for January 7, 2026 at Atere campus.
Speaking with journalists as part of activities marking the convocation ceremony in Ilorin on Friday in Ilorin, Prof Oladimeji said 76 of the graduates bagged First Class.
Giving the breakdown, the sixth Vice-Chancellor said the University recorded 1,008 second class upper, 996 second class lower, 112 third class, 77 Postgraduate Diplomas, 485 Masters and 79 PhD.
He said the Faculty of Agriculture in Igbaja campus has continued to assist Kwara State, in particular, and Nigeria, in general, to promote food sufficiency and security in the country as part of the University’s contribution and community engagement.
According to him, the institution’s Centre for Peace and Security Studies of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has continued to train and produce graduands who are currently working in various military and paramilitary agencies, which are aimed to assist Nigeria to address conflict situations and towards promoting national security.
“Al-Hikmah University is on the path of growth for national and global recognition. The acronym STRESS-FREE stands for: S – Strategic Plan; T – Teamwork; R – Revenue
E – Expansion; S – Staff and Student Welfare; S – Security ; F – Funding; R – Ranking; E- Entrepreneurship; E – Evaluation.
“Recently, Al-Hikmah University presented 28 of her undergraduate and five postgraduate programmes for re-accreditation exercise, after 5 – years of the last accreditation in 2020. During the exercise, the University hosted 21 teams from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
“Similarly, the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and the Council of Legal Education (CLE), in line with their regulatory mandate came on assessment visits of the University’s MB;BS and Law Programmes.
“Consequently, the two bodies expressed satisfaction with the quality of our state of the art infrastructure, staffing, and adequate curriculum coverage, reflecting our commitment to upholding professional and regulatory excellence across all fields of study.
“These accreditation exercises have further strengthened our academic outlook, boosted teaching quality, and enhanced our capacity in the effort to position Al-Hikmah University as a Centre of Excellence in the provision of quality,” Oladimeji said.
He said that the growth of the institution has reinforced their commitment to continuously improve the learning environment and provide facilities that support quality teaching, research, and student welfare.
According to him, in line with this commitment, the University Governing Council has given approval for huge investment in infrastructural expansion across the three campuses.
The Vice-Chancellor thanked and appreciated Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, CFR, of Kwara State, for the state government’s decision to approve Sobi Specialist Hospital as Al-Hikmah University Teaching Hospital.
The Professor also disclosed the approval of the National Universities Commission (NUC) to commence academic activities through its Centre for Distance and e-Learning.
According to him, this approval followed a successful NUC resource assessment visit to the University for B. Sc Computer Science programme under the distance learning mode.
“Consequently, the University shall commence admission into the programme in the 2025/2026 academic session.
“Al-Hikmah University also recently established the Faculty Computing, Engineering and Technology, which currently houses the Departments of Computer Science, Data Science, and Information Science.
“The University is at an advanced stage of commencing new professional degrees programmes in Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering. These programmes are designed to respond to the immediate needs of manpower in the highlighted disciplines and produce graduates with industry-relevant skills for the evolving technological landscape,” he added.
He reiterated the position of proprietors of private university in Nigeria to advocate for an inclusive national research funding framework, such as TETFUND, one that rewards excellence and innovation, regardless of institutional affiliation or ownership.
