Kwara Anglican Bishop Preaches Love Beyond Ethnicity, Urges Action Against Insecurity

Christians in Kwara State have been charged to embrace love across ethnic and cultural lines as a pathway to peaceful coexistence and unity in society.

The Bishop of the Diocese of Kwara, Anglican Communion, Right Reverend Sunday Adewole, gave the charge during his Christmas message at the Cathedral of Saint Barnabas Church, Sabo-Oke, Ilorin. The message, themed “The Greatest Gift from God,” focused on the place of love in the Christian faith and national harmony.

Drawing from the biblical account in Genesis 1:3, Bishop Adewole said God’s command, “Let there be light,” symbolises unconditional love that dispels darkness and division among people.

“What we celebrate at Christmas is the love of God expressed through the gift of salvation to mankind,” the bishop said. “That love must reflect in how we relate with one another, regardless of tribe or background.”

He called on Christians to use the season as a moment of self-examination, urging them to repent from wrongdoing and begin the new year with renewed commitment to godly living.

Bishop Adewole also appealed to governments at all levels to intensify efforts at tackling insecurity and easing the hardship faced by ordinary Nigerians.

“The suffering of the common man must be addressed with sincerity and urgency,” he said, while urging citizens to support government initiatives by acting responsibly and promoting peace within their communities.

In his remarks, Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, represented by his deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, commended the Christian community for its consistent role in fostering peace and unity in the state.

Alabi assured that the state government would continue to roll out policies and programmes aimed at improving the welfare and wellbeing of residents across Kwara State.
