Kwara South Monarchs Denounce Alleged “Unanimous” Zoning of Governorship to the North

At a time when one of our own and several innocent indigenes of Kwara South remain in the hands of kidnappers, it is shameful and insensitive for anyone to be dragging traditional institutions into political zoning discussions.
According to a group, Igbomina Monarch Integrity Group, security and the safety of our people must come before politics.
While it is understandable that a few monarchs may have benefited from the current state government through appointments and contracts—facts that are not hidden from the public, their personal interests must not be mistaken for the collective voice of all Kwara South monarchs.
Prominent monarchs in Ifelodun have denounced the recent report alleging a unanimous endorsement of zoning the governorship to the North.
“We have no knowledge of such a meeting or political convergence. We are not politicians and we have no role in determining political outcomes. Our primary concern is the rescue of Oba Bayagan and other victims still in captivity.”
We appeal to the people of Kwara South to remain calm and assured: “we have not lost our integrity as custodians of culture and tradition.
“Although some traditional rulers may have gathered, they do not speak for the entire Kwara South traditional council. Their actions represent only a small circle of monarchs who frequently romance with the political class. Their statements must not be mistaken as the position of all monarchs.
We shall engage our colleagues and remind them to maintain the dignity of the royal institution by staying clear of partisan politics.
Traditional rulers must remain peacemakers—not instruments of division.
Taking sides against the will of the people will only lead to instability and erode the honour passed down by our forefathers.
Once again, “we, the Igbomina Monarch Integrity Group, firmly denounce the misleading statements credited to some of our respected colleagues. Our loyalty remains with our people, our land, and the truth.”
