Kwara Firefighters Prevent Major Disaster in Ilorin Residential Fire

Firefighters in Kwara State narrowly prevented a potentially devastating fire from spreading to neighbouring homes in Ilorin South Local Government Area on Monday, 1st December 2025.

The incident occurred around 2:17 pm at No. 20 Oke-Bonke, Oluwole Area, where a building housing four-bedroom flats was engulfed in flames before the arrival of emergency responders.

Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, praised his team for their swift and professional response, which contained the blaze and prevented further damage.

“Our firefighters acted quickly to ensure the fire did not spread to nearby structures. Lives and property were protected because of their dedication,” he said.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was triggered by a power surge within the building. Director Falade warned residents to prioritise electrical safety.

He called for the use of certified circuit breakers, surge protectors, and regular checks on household wiring.

“Power surges continue to be a leading cause of domestic fires. Residents must remain vigilant, particularly during peak electricity fluctuations,” he advised.

The Kwara State Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and properties across the state, urging residents to adopt preventive measures to reduce fire risks.
