67 Bag First Class as Igbinedion University Graduates 1,050 Students

 

Igbinedion University, Okada in Edo State on Saturday graduated a total of 1,050 students, with 67 of them earning First-Class honours.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, announced the figures during the institution’s 23rd Convocation Ceremony. He said the rise in the number of First-Class graduates reflects the university’s growing academic standards, the resilience of its students, and the dedication of its academic staff.

According to him, 408 students graduated with Second-Class Upper Division, while 162 earned Second-Class Lower Division. He added that 225 others were awarded various professional and distinguished degrees, including the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS).

Out of these, three candidates bagged distinctions in Community Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, and Pharmacy.

 

 

Ezemonye noted that, in total, 862 candidates received first degrees, representing a marked improvement from previous years. He added that the university also awarded 188 postgraduate degrees, made up of 59 Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), 103 Master’s degrees and 26 Postgraduate Diplomas.

“This demonstrates our commitment to advancing knowledge and producing specialists who can contribute meaningfully to national development at the highest levels,” he said.

In his remarks, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Prof. Ahmed Tijani-Mora, urged the graduates to uphold the values of the university and continue to project excellence in their future endeavours.

“Without being immodest, we are proud of our accomplishments over the past 26 years as a productive training ground for Nigeria’s much-needed manpower to drive national governance and economic growth,” he stated.
