Fire Brigade Saves 23-Room Hotel as Fire Guts Bar, Store in Ilorin

An early-morning fire on Tuesday was narrowly prevented from causing major devastation at Ebunlomo Hotel and Resort in the Osin area of Ita Elepa, off Asa Dam Road, Ilorin West Local Government Area, following the swift intervention of the Kwara State Fire Service.
The fire, which started at about 5:07am, affected the hotel’s bar and store but was prevented from spreading to the 23 guest rooms in the main building. Firefighters arrived promptly and mounted what officials described as a coordinated and timely operation.
A preliminary investigation by the fire service traced the incident to a power surge that ignited materials in the affected sections.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, urged hotel operators and residents to take electrical safety more seriously, noting that many preventable fires are linked to poor maintenance and unstable power supply.

“We advise all hospitality operators and the public to install surge protectors, functional circuit breakers and ensure routine electrical checks.
“Early detection and proper safety practices go a long way in reducing fire disasters.” He said.
He assured the public that the service remains committed to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
The statement was issued by PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, Head of Media and Publicity, Kwara State Fire Service.
