Kwara Police Nab 16 Suspects, Recover 50 Rounds of Ammunition in Fresh Crackdown on Crime

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested 16 suspected criminals and recovered 50 live rounds of AK-47 ammunition in a renewed offensive against crime across the state.

Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, disclosed this in Ilorin while briefing journalists on the command’s achievements in the past month.

He said the arrests were made for offences ranging from kidnapping and armed robbery to homicide, child defilement, and drug trafficking.

“Through credible intelligence, coordinated field operations, and collaboration with other security agencies, we have successfully dismantled several criminal networks operating in different parts of the state,” Ojo stated.

Among those arrested, according to the commissioner, were six suspected kidnappers, a homicide suspect accused of decapitating a motorcycle mechanic, and others involved in cases of child abuse and illicit drug trade.

Ojo expressed deep concern over the growing involvement of teenagers in serious crimes, describing the development as alarming. He cited recent incidents where a 15-year-old boy, Falade Ebenezer, was arrested for allegedly raping a 10-year-old girl in Adewole, and another 17-year-old, Ridwan Oseni, accused of defiling a five-year-old child.

“These young suspects have confessed to their crimes and will face prosecution upon completion of investigations,” he added.

While reaffirming the command’s commitment to intelligence-driven and technology-led policing, Ojo called on parents, teachers, and religious leaders to strengthen moral guidance for children to curb the rising wave of juvenile crime in the state.

“Our collective vigilance and moral responsibility are crucial in preventing young people from straying into criminal activities,” he said.
