Olawepo-Hashim Blames APC for Renewed Smear Campaign, Says Ex-Wife’s Allegations Politically Motivated

Former presidential candidate, Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, has accused top figures in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of sponsoring fresh allegations against him through his estranged wife in a renewed attempt to tarnish his image ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the politician claimed the recent resurgence of personal accusations against him was part of an orchestrated plot by the same political actors who, he alleged, worked to frustrate his 2019 presidential ambition.
“She has been recruited once again by elements within the APC machinery, just like in 2019 when she was influenced by individuals around the Buhari administration and the Nigerian Intelligence Agency,” Olawepo-Hashim alleged.
“They tried to frame me for terrorism funding, and I was interrogated in the UK before being released when no evidence was found. She was the one who gave false information to the UK authorities.”
The former presidential candidate also recalled that the same political network allegedly seized two of his company’s oil assets during the period, forcing him into years of litigation. He noted that Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court, Abuja, eventually ruled in November 2020 in favour of his firm, Transnational Energy Limited (TEL), ordering the government to return the Hely Creek and Abigborodo oil fields and awarding $20 million in damages.
Olawepo-Hashim further alleged that his ex-wife’s divorce proceedings in the United Kingdom were part of a wider campaign against him, claiming that she obtained an undefended divorce judgment granting her £18 million, which was later annulled by a Nigerian court since their marriage was contracted under Nigerian law.
He accused unnamed APC strategists of bankrolling her activities, saying, “She has received millions of dollars from APC handlers and was nominated for several foreign grants to paint me in a bad light. My lawyers have asked her several times to provide account details for our children’s upkeep, but she has refused because she is after the £18 million judgment.”
Describing his estranged wife as “a professional blackmailer and social climber,” Olawepo-Hashim insisted the renewed allegations were politically driven. “Now that the 2027 campaign season has begun, the same APC operatives have picked her up again, pushing her story in the media to distract Nigerians from their failures,” he said.
He dismissed claims of a new court order compelling one of his companies to pay ₦300 million, calling it “a fabrication from an APC night court,” noting that his legal representatives were never served with such a process.
“This is pure desperation, a reflection of how threatened they are by our message. Fabricating scandals from bitter ex-spouses won’t save the APC from defeat in 2027,” he declared.
Concluding, Olawepo-Hashim maintained that no amount of propaganda would derail his political plans. “Tales like this did not stop President Trump in America; they won’t stop us here either, by the grace of God,” he added.
