Omupo set for 2025 Oba-Igba festival, eyes national and global recognition

The people of Omupo, in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, are set to host the 2025 edition of the annual Oba-Igba Festival on Saturday, November 29, 2025.

The date was formally announced during the inaugural meeting of the Main Organizing Committee (MOC), following its inauguration by the Omupo Descendants Union (ODU).

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Committee, Dr. Steve Olarinoye, disclosed that the 2025 Oba Igba festival will hold at the Muslim Community Primary School, Omupo,

According to him, the festival will feature a traditional tour by the Olomu of Omupo, Oba Alhaji Muhammad Yaqub Adebayo Buari, who will visit historic sites across the community. The monarch is also expected to perform a symbolic mock wrestling match at the market square, a major highlight of the celebration.

Dr. Olarinoye added that various traditional chiefs, families, associations, and community groups—dressed in uniform attires—will pay homage to the Olomu at his palace. Other lined-up activities include fundraising for the reconstruction of the Omupo City Hall, sports and games, awards presentations, and the conferment of honorary chieftaincy titles on selected distinguished personalities within and outside the community.

He called on all sons and daughters of Omupo to support and participate actively to ensure the success of the 2025 festival.

In his remarks, President of the ODU, Dr. Monisoye Afolabi, emphasized that this year’s edition aims to build on the achievements of 2024. According to him, the goal is to elevate the festival to national and international prominence, thereby attracting more guests and boosting Omupo’s social, economic, and political development.
