Iran Stands Alone as Arab World Backs Palestinian State Framework

Hellbent on its intent to destroy the Jewish State, Iran predictably rejected a united mandate across the Arab world calling for a two-state solution.

Iran’s refusal came during an emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha on Monday that was hastily convened after Israel’s September 9 strike on Hamas leadership in Qatar’s capital.

The Israeli attack reportedly killed five Hamas terrorists, including the son of the group’s top negotiator Khalil al-Hayya, plus a Qatari security officer.

Qatar’s response was swift and angry. Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani called it “state terrorism,” while the country’s emir branded the attack “blatant, shameless and cowardly.” More significant was Qatar’s role as the key mediator in Gaza ceasefire talks, making Israel’s strike particularly provocative.

Nearly 60 leaders from across the Muslim world descended on Doha for Monday’s summit, including Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

The gathering brought together the 57-member Organization of Islamic Cooperation with the 22-member Arab League – a rare show of regional unity.

But that unity had limits, as became clear when the summit endorsed international efforts toward a two-state solution. Leaders welcomed the UN General Assembly’s recent

“New York Declaration” supporting Palestinian statehood, which passed with 142 countries in favor. They also backed an upcoming conference on September 22 in New York, co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi warned that Israel was “sabotaging existing peace agreements” and that “consequences will be dire.” Jordan’s King Abdullah called Israel’s threat “without limits” and demanded decisive action. Malaysia’s prime minister went further, calling the Doha attack “barbaric.” (JBN)
