Ashaolu SAN Urges Govt to Empower Youths, Warns Against Rising Cybercrime

Former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Kwara State, Titus Ashaolu (SAN), has called on governments at all levels to create an enabling environment that will promote job creation and keep Nigerian youths away from cybercrime and other criminal activities.

Speaking in Ilorin on the state of the nation, Ashaolu stressed that the lack of opportunities is pushing many young people into illegal ventures.

He advised that government must provide incentives that will help youths start businesses or learn vocations as an alternative to crime.

“Making incentives and support available for our youths to start a trade or business will definitely shift their attention away from crime,” he said.

Ashaolu also appealed for greater government investment in agriculture, particularly through funding and security for those venturing into farming.

According to him, this would make agriculture both attractive and sustainable for young people.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria further urged parents to take responsibility by monitoring their children closely and guiding them against cybercrime and other antisocial vices.

He expressed concern over the increasing obsession with wealth at all costs among Nigerians.

“Many young people now set targets for themselves on how to acquire wealth without any visible means of livelihood. This trend is worrisome and needs to be checked,” he warned.

He encouraged parents to instill godliness and respect for the law in their children, adding that such values would help raise responsible leaders for the future.

While commending anti-graft agencies for the prompt arrest and prosecution of offenders, Ashaolu noted that enforcing the law will serve as a deterrent to would-be criminals.
