Kwara Youths Get Digital Boost as Over 70 Trained in Drone Piloting, Media Skills

Over 70 young people in Kwara State have been equipped with digital media skills and drone piloting to enhance their livelihood and reduce unemployment.

The training, organised by 132 Media Academy at the Kwara State Library, Ilorin, brought together resource persons who charged the beneficiaries to use the knowledge responsibly and for national development.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kwara State Council, Comrade Abdulateef Ahmed, reminded the trainees that digital knowledge is a powerful tool that must not be misused.

“I urge you to use these skills responsibly in ways that will not endanger national interest. Instead, deploy them to correct the ills caused by non-professionals in the society,” he said.

On his part, the General Manager of the Kwara State Broadcasting Corporation (Radio Kwara), Mr. Kayode Aremu, represented by Alhaji Sikiru Azeez, noted that the initiative would go a long way in reducing restiveness among youths while creating opportunities for self-reliance.

“This training is a chance to develop yourselves. Take it seriously and use it as a pathway to employment,” he advised.

Another speaker, Mr. Oludele Ayobami, urged participants to be mindful of their online activities.

“The content you put out defines your reputation. With these skills, you have the chance to light up your world and make a positive impact,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of 132 Media Academy, Mr. Tijani Ajara, explained that the project was designed as a way of giving back to society and nurturing the next generation of creators.

According to him, the academy has already trained over 500 youths for free across and beyond Kwara State, with plans to make the programme a yearly tradition.

Ajara also highlighted the vast opportunities in the global digital space. “There is about 20 trillion dollars’ worth of market waiting for skilled content creators. Nigerian youths must seize this opportunity to promote peace, development, and self-sufficiency,” he added.

The training covered practical areas such as camera operation, drone piloting, lighting composition, sound engineering, and video editing, among others.
