Tinubu felicitates IBB at 84, hails his legacy of service

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has showered praises on former Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd), as he marks his 84th birthday, describing him as a leader whose imprint on Nigeria’s history “remains indelible.”

In a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu hailed Babangida’s years in power as a period of courage, reforms, and landmark infrastructural development.

“General Babangida’s administration will be remembered for giant infrastructural investments, such as the iconic Third Mainland Bridge, and the economic reforms that opened up our nation’s economy,” Tinubu said.

He also credited IBB for laying strong institutional foundations for security and governance.

“His leadership gave birth to critical agencies like the State Security Service, National Intelligence Agency, Defence Intelligence Agency, and the Federal Road Safety Corps. He also presided over the creation of new states and the historic relocation of our capital from Lagos to Abuja,” the President noted.

Tinubu further applauded Babangida’s illustrious military career, from his early days at the Nigerian Defence Academy to his rise as Chief of Army Staff before becoming Head of State.

Describing him as a patriot who devoted his life to national service, Tinubu prayed for God’s continued blessings on the former leader.

“On behalf of the government and people of Nigeria, I wish General Babangida more years in good health and renewed strength,” Tinubu prayed.
