Former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, has died at the age of 78.

In a statement issued by the Ogbeh family on Saturday, the former minister was confirmed to have “passed away peacefully” on 9 August 2025.

“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and grandfather; Chief Audu Ogbeh.

He passed away on the 9th of August 2025 at the fulfilled age of 78,” the family announced.

The statement described Ogbeh as a man who “departed peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, service, and dedication to our nation and community.” It added that his life “touched many” and set an example for others to follow.

Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, the family said, while requesting privacy during the mourning period.

Ogbeh, a seasoned politician and one-time National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, served in various political and public capacities over the decades, earning a reputation for bluntness and commitment to agricultural reform.
