NYSC DG Tasks Corps Members in Kwara on Patriotism, Social Media Responsibility

The Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier-General Olakunle O. Nafiu, has urged Corps members to avoid using social media for frivolous purposes during their service year and beyond.

Addressing the 2025 Batch A, Stream II Corps members currently undergoing orientation at the NYSC Camp in Yikpata, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, General Nafiu emphasized the importance of using social media with caution, noting that misuse could have long-term consequences.

“Social media is a powerful tool in today’s world, but it must be handled with discipline and responsibility,”

“Some matters are better resolved with those around you rather than being broadcast online. The abuse of social media can have very grievous consequences—both now and in the future.”

He congratulated the Corps members on completing their academic programmes and charged them to take their national assignment seriously, using the service year as a platform for leadership development and civic responsibility.

“This is a crucial stage in your journey. You are no longer just graduates; you are now potential leaders and ambassadors of Nigeria. Let your conduct reflect that,” he added.

The NYSC DG further encouraged the Corps members to serve their host communities with dedication, discipline, and patriotism, noting that their contributions, no matter how small, could make a significant impact on national development.

Also speaking, the NYSC Kwara State Coordinator, Mr Onifade Olaoluwa Joshua, described the DG’s visit as a morale booster for the 2,290 Corps members currently undergoing orientation in the state.

According to him, “The presence of the Director-General is not only encouraging but also inspiring for the Corps members. It reinforces the seriousness of the service year and the expectations that come with it.”

The address sets a tone of responsibility and patriotism for the young Nigerians as they prepare to contribute to nation-building through their assigned duties across the state.
