One Year Rememberance:  Family, Clerics Hail Late Radio Nigeria Journalist Abdulrasaq Bello as Humble, God-Fearing

Muslim faithful, friends and colleagues gathered in Jimba Oja, Kwara State, to honour the memory of veteran journalist Abdulrasaq Bello, a respected broadcaster with Radio Nigeria Harmony 103.5 FM, who passed away a year ago.

Leading the remembrance prayer, the Chief Imam of Jimba Oja, Alhaji Shehu Abubakar, described the late Bello as a man of integrity, humility and upright character whose legacy continues to inspire many.

He was joined by Mallam AbdulRaheem Abubakr, who encouraged the congregation to live righteously, reminding them that “every deed—good or bad—will be rewarded, both in this life and the hereafter.”

The Chief Imam also praised Bello’s widow, Hajia Maryam Giwa-Bello, for her resilience and commitment to preserving the family despite her husband’s absence. “She has shown uncommon strength in keeping the home. May Allah grant the family the fortitude to bear the irreplaceable loss,” he prayed.

Islamic public affairs analysts from Radio Nigeria Harmony FM, Sheikh Ibrahim Oniluru and Sheikh Suleiman Dagbo, paid glowing tributes, recalling how Bello would constantly request prayers for his late mother.

“That gesture reflects obedience to Allah’s command. It is important that we continue to pray for our departed loved ones,” they advised.

Beyond the formal family-organised prayer session, other Islamic clerics have continued to visit the late journalist’s home unannounced, offering prayers and paying respects to a man many described as God-fearing and exemplary in both words and actions.

The remembrance, which took place at Bello’s residence in Jimba Oja, also attracted well-wishers from across Nigeria and beyond, many of whom joined the event virtually via Zoom. Bello died on May 27, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism, simplicity and faithfulness to duty.
