Osun APC Warns Party Executives Against Endorsing Governorship Aspirants Ahead of 2026 Poll
The All Progressives Congress (APC), Osun State has issued a stern warning to its local government and ward-level officials to steer clear of aligning with any governorship aspirant, as political activities began to gather momentum ahead 2026 governorship election in the state
The directive, which came from the state chairman of the party, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal, was handed down during a stakeholders’ meeting held on Saturday at the APC state secretariat in Osogbo.
Lawal stressed that the move was aimed at promoting unity, curbing internal wrangling, and preserving discipline within the party, especially as the contest for the party’s ticket intensifies.
“No executive member of our party at any level – unit, ward, local government, senatorial or national – is allowed to serve as coordinator for any aspirant,” he said.
“The noise and rancour coming from within our party because of individual preferences is embarrassing and must stop.”
He noted that the party has yet to release any official guidelines for the primary election and cautioned members against taking unauthorized actions that could undermine the process.
“Let me make it clear: the party has not anointed any aspirant. Whenever the guidelines are ready, they will be made public. Nobody will be favoured secretly,” Lawal emphasized.
He called on governorship hopefuls to caution their supporters and warned that any party member who disobeys this directive would face disciplinary action.
“The supremacy of the party is non-negotiable. Anyone who crosses the red line will be sanctioned,” he warned.
“We must not allow personal ambitions to tear the party apart when our goal is to reclaim Osun from the ruling party.”
Lawal also described the large number of aspirants as a sign of the party’s vibrancy but urged members not to let internal competition degenerate into factional battles.
He revealed that registration of new members, including defectors from other parties, will soon commence as part of efforts to strengthen the APC ahead of the 2026 polls.
“Our focus should be on unity and victory. Let’s play the game according to the rules,” Lawal concluded.
