Anambra Teen Impregnates 10 Girls in 5 Months, Commissioner Seeks Public Intervention

An 18-year-old boy in Anambra State has stirred alarm across his community after reportedly impregnating 10 girls within a span of five months, prompting the state’s Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo, to call for public support in tackling the issue.

Obinabo, who made the disclosure during a live social media session on Wednesday, said the young man began his apprenticeship just five months ago but was soon sent away after impregnating both his master’s daughter and a salesgirl. What followed, she revealed, was a trail of eight additional pregnancies involving girls from his village.

“This boy was sent to learn a trade at the age of 18. Just three months into it, he impregnated his master’s daughter and the salesgirl, and was chased away. Two months after, he impregnated eight more girls in the village,” the commissioner said.

She added that the teenager’s mother had reported the matter to her, overwhelmed by the situation and seeking help. According to Obinabo, the mother expressed deep concern: “Anytime I see a girl coming towards our house nowadays, my heart jumps. Please, I need help.”

Obinabo said the young man admitted to charming the girls with promises of love and marriage once he becomes wealthy. “I asked him what trick he uses, and he said he just tells them he loves them and will marry them in the future,” she said.

The commissioner, who chose not to disclose the identities of those involved, admitted that the situation had surpassed her office’s capacity to resolve alone. “This matter is beyond me. That’s why I want the public to help with a solution. Is this spiritual?”

She called for urgent community engagement, guidance, and possible rehabilitation to address what she described as a troubling trend among young people.
