NYSC Coordinator Seeks Improved Welfare for Corps Members in Kwara

The Kwara State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mr Onifade oshua, has appealed to the state government, local councils, and employers of corps members in the state to step up their support for young Nigerians serving the nation.

Speaking at the official swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream 1 corps members deployed to Kwara, Onifade praised the Federal Government for increasing the monthly allowance of corps members.

He urged state-level stakeholders to follow suit by providing additional support, especially in terms of accommodation and transport stipends.

“We are grateful to Mr President and the Federal Government for the upward review of corps members’ allowance. It is now time for the state, local governments and employers to also show their commitment by improving the welfare packages for our corps members,” he said.

Onifade emphasized that corps employers, who benefit directly from the services of corps members, should provide adequate support to encourage productivity and national service commitment.

“In this current economic situation, the only way to get the best from these young Nigerians is to motivate them. A better welfare package is not just a kind gesture—it is necessary,” he added.

A total of 1,308 corps members took the oath of allegiance at the ceremony, which was administered by Justice H. Ajayi on behalf of the Chief Judge of Kwara State.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Hon. Shehu Ndanusa Usman, welcomed the corps members to Kwara, describing it as a peaceful and hospitable state.

He congratulated the new inductees and urged them to embrace the values of unity, discipline, and selfless service throughout their service year.

Justice Ajayi, in her address to the corps members, reminded them to live up to the promise contained in their oath and uphold the ideals of the NYSC scheme throughout their stay in the state.
