Gov. AbdulRazaq Leads Security Chiefs to Kaiama in Show of Force and Solidarity
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State on Monday led a high-level joint security team to Kaiama Local Government Area in a move aimed at boosting inter-agency collaboration and strengthening surveillance in border communities.
The delegation included top brass from the Nigerian Army, Police, and Department of State Services (DSS), underscoring the seriousness of the visit amid growing concerns about trans-border security threats.
Speaking during the assessment tour, Governor AbdulRazaq said the visit was a proactive step to “evaluate the security situation on ground and reaffirm our commitment to the safety and peace of our border communities.”
“Our presence here sends a clear message to criminal elements: Kwara will not be a safe haven for insecurity. We are united with all security agencies in ensuring that our people live in peace,” he stated.
The joint delegation featured the General Officer Commanding 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General O.G. Onubugu; Brigade Commander Sobi Cantonment, Brigadier General E.B. Barkins; Kwara State Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo; DSS Director, Mr Michael Aganwu; and the Governor’s Senior Special Adviser on Security Matters, Alhaji Aliyu Muyideen.
They held a strategic meeting with the Emir of Kaiama, Alhaji Muazu Shehu Omar (Bagidi ki Yaru IV), local government leaders, community stakeholders, and lawmakers to discuss security challenges in areas such as Kemenji, Karoji, and the Kainji National Park axis.
Also present at the meeting were the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Abubakar Abdullahi Bata; Chairmen of Kaiama and Baruten LGAs; and members of the Kwara State House of Assembly.
After the deliberations, the team inspected a local oil mill before returning safely to Ilorin.
The Police Public Relations Officer in Kwara, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, assured residents that security across Kaiama, Baruten, and nearby communities is being beefed up.
“We urge residents to remain calm and vigilant. Anyone found trying to disrupt the peace will face the full weight of the law,” she said.
The visit reaffirms the administration’s resolve to secure lives and property in all parts of the state, especially in areas sharing boundaries with other states and countries.
