UNILORIN VC Lauds Emir of Ilorin’s Inclusive Leadership 

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole (SAN), has described the reign of Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, as a blessing not only to the Ilorin Emirate but to the entire Kwara State and Nigeria at large.

This is contained in a goodwill message signed by the university’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun, as the Emir marks his 85th birthday on Tuesday.

Prof. Egbewole hailed the monarch for his leadership qualities, peaceful disposition and immense contributions to national development, especially in the legal profession.

“The Emir is an outstanding leader and a respected statesman whose reign has ushered in tremendous progress in Ilorin and across Kwara State,” the VC said.

He noted that Sulu-Gambari’s career as a seasoned jurist and former Justice of the Court of Appeal laid a strong foundation for the wisdom and fairness he now brings to traditional leadership.

He acknowledged the Emir’s consistent fatherly role towards the University of Ilorin, stressing that the monarch’s inclusive approach to all residents, regardless of origin, has been instrumental in Ilorin’s emergence as one of Nigeria’s fastest-growing cities.

“The Emir has been a father to all. His non-discriminatory attitude towards non-indigenes doing business or living in Ilorin is exceptional.

This openness has played a key role in attracting people and progress to the city,” Prof. Egbewole stated.

He also credited the harmony between the University and its host community to the Emir’s influence, saying, “The peace we enjoy on our campus is a reflection of the peace within the Ilorin community.”

While praying for the monarch’s continued good health and impactful service, the Vice Chancellor assured that the university remains committed to supporting the development of the Ilorin Emirate and called on residents to reciprocate by backing the institution’s goals.

Alhaji Sulu-Gambari, who has served as the Emir since 1995, is also the Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano and Muhammad Kamalud-Deen University, Ilorin.
