Quick Response by Kwara Firefighters Saves 45 Trucks from Devastating Fire in Ilorin
A major fire outbreak that threatened to destroy over 45 trucks at the Alagbede Tipper Garage in the Ita Alamu area of Ilorin was swiftly contained by operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service on Sunday night.
The incident, which occurred at about 10:39 pm on April 6, involved a massive pile of plastic materials awaiting recycling that suddenly went up in flames.
According to a statement issued by the Head of Media and Publicity of the Kwara State Fire Service, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, firefighters responded promptly to a distress call and were able to control the inferno before it could spread to the nearby parked trucks.
“Our fire crew acted swiftly and professionally. On arrival, we met a huge heap of plastics already consumed by fire and dangerously close to over 45 trucks,”
“The team worked relentlessly to contain the situation and prevented the fire from spreading further,” the statement said
Preliminary findings from the scene indicated that a loud explosion was heard by security personnel just moments before the fire broke out, hinting at a possible trigger.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, used the opportunity to remind residents of the importance of fire safety and vigilance, especially around highly flammable materials.
“People must remain alert and cautious, particularly in areas where combustible items are stored. Prevention is always better than cure,” he warned.
The Fire Service reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state through effective prevention measures and timely emergency response.
