Kwara Police Command Unveils Activities for Inaugural National Police Day Celebration
The Kwara State Police Command has announced plans to commemorate the first-ever National Police Day, scheduled for April 7, with a series of community-oriented events aimed at fostering stronger police-public relations and recognizing the dedication of officers in ensuring security.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, highlighted that the activities, in line with the directives of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, would include sanitation exercises, town hall meetings, medical outreach, and sensitization programs against crime and social vices.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, described the initiative as a milestone in strengthening cooperation between the police and residents.
“This is a special moment to celebrate our officers’ sacrifices and to engage directly with the public. Security is a collective responsibility, and we are committed to working with communities to build a safer Kwara State,” he said.
The program will kick off on April 2 with a sanitation exercise at key locations such as the Post Office, Geri Alimi Roundabout, Yoruba Market, and Sawmill in Surulere, reinforcing the police’s role in public health and environmental cleanliness.
A town hall meeting slated for April 3 will bring together traditional rulers, government officials, security agencies, and community leaders to discuss the theme: “Community and the Police: Strengthening Cooperation for Enhanced Security and Effective Service Delivery.”
As part of its social responsibility efforts, the command will offer free medical services to residents on April 4, followed by a statewide campaign on April 5 against cultism, violent crime, gender-based violence, and other social vices targeting schools and public spaces.
CP Ojo urged residents to actively participate in the events, emphasizing that a united community-police collaboration is essential for a crime-free society.
“We want National Police Day to serve as a reminder that the police are not just enforcers of the law but partners in development. This will be an annual tradition in Kwara State,” he assured.
