Ogbomoso Resident Doctors Urge Makinde to Extend New Minimum Wage, Approve Residency Fund

Resident doctors at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, have called on Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, to ensure the implementation of the new minimum wage for their members, emphasizing that they have been excluded despite its rollout for other health workers in the state.

In a statement signed by Dr. Adedokun Ishola, President of the Association of Resident Doctors (ARD-LTH), and Dr. Mustapha Al-halim, General Secretary, the doctors also urged the state government to expedite approval of the Medical Residency Training Act/Fund (MRTA/F), which supports specialist training for doctors.

“We appreciate the government’s commitment to civil servants’ welfare, including the N80,000 minimum wage and the 13th-month salary. However, our members at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital have yet to benefit from the new wage structure. We urge the governor to take swift action to address this disparity,” the statement read.

The doctors noted that approving and implementing the MRTA/F would not only enhance their welfare but also attract more specialists to Oyo State, ultimately improving healthcare services for residents.

“We recognize the ongoing efforts to adopt the residency training fund, but more urgency is needed. Its implementation will encourage more doctors to stay in the state and undergo specialist training, ensuring better healthcare delivery for the people,” they added.

The association commended Governor Makinde for prioritizing workers’ welfare and sustaining the wage award for civil servants but stressed that resident doctors at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital should not be left behind in these reforms.
