47 Students Bag First Class At 14th Al-Hikmah University Convocation 

 

 

Forty-seven (47) students of Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, bagged first class at the 14th convocation ceremony of the institution held on Tuesday.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Noah Yusuf, who made this disclosure said that a total of 2,211 students were awarded various degrees of the University

Giving the breakdown, the Vice-Chancellor said that 1,748 graduating students were undergraduate, 736 were Second Class Upper Division, 886 Second Class Lower Division, 76 were Third Class, 59 with Diplomas, 283 with Masters and 42 bagged Ph.D.

Prof. Yusuf urged the graduating students to continuously update their skills to remain relevant in the job market.

According to him, learning is a life-long process, therefore, endeavour to seize every opportunity to acquire new skills for their personal and career growth and development.

“Consider entrepreneurship as a viable career option and take calculated risks to achieve your goals. Practice the entrepreneurship skills, which you have acquired from the University and remember that at Al-Hikmah University graduates, endeavour to be employer of labour and not job seekers.

“Give back to your community through volunteer work, mentorship, or other forms of community service.

“Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills to tackle complex challenges. Improve your communication skills to effectively convey your ideas, thoughts and opinions,” he said.

The VC advised the graduating students to develop a growth mindset and learn to bounce back from setbacks and failures through resilience.

He tasked the graduands to demonstrate professionalism in all aspects of their life, including their career, relationships and online presence.

He stressed the need for the graduands to learn to work effectively with others, building strong relationships and achieving common goals, adding that they should strive to become leaders in their chosen fields making positive impacts and inspiring others.

Prof. Yusuf said that both academic and non-academic staff are regularly being supported through robust staff development scheme to enhance their productivity.

He said that since 2020 to date, 53 of the 55 undergraduate academic programmes have secured full accreditation status while the University is awaiting the report of the outstanding two.

Yusuf added that the University administration began inaugural lectures for professors to meet one of the requirements of a Global University, saying that five inaugural lectures had been held by the University.

He said that the University was repositioning its Distance Learning Centre in line with the requirements of the National Universities Commission’s e-learning office with Computer Science as the starting programme, effective from the current 2024/2025 academic session.

Earlier, the Chancellor, Alhaji Sayyu Dantata said the 20th Anniversary ceremony was a milestone, adding that there is power in education to transform lives and societies.

He urged the University community to re-commit themselves to using education as a powerful tool for transforming lives, communities and societies.

Also, the Pro-chancellor, and Chairman of Council, Alhaja Sekinat Olusola Yusuf said the drive of the University management is to continue in its mission of providing access to quality education, fostering innovation and entrepreneurship and promoting social justice and community engagement.

He urged the graduands to continue to strive for excellence, to be curious to learn more about permanent life outside the campus, to be open-minded and to be bold and courageous in pursuing their dreams.
