A Non Governmental Organization known as Al-Muhibbah foundation, has given out N9 million to 18 families of victims of Gender Based Violence in Bauchi state.

The foundation is a pet programme of Mrs Aisha Mohammed, the wife of Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state.

Presenting the cash to the families on Saturday, Mrs Mohammed said that each of the 18 families would receive the sum of N500,000.

Mrs Mohammed, who expressed worry over the issue of gender based violence in the state, assured that the GBV Committee in the state was doing everything possible to curb the menace.

She stressed that the amount given to the families was not a compensation for what was done to their children but a form of expression of sympathy and concern to pacify them.

“We are not compensating you for what happened to your daughters but to encourage you to move on with life, get your acts together, start a business that will sustain your families.

“We have ensured that the culprits were sent to jail for various terms and they have been rehabilitated to make them responsible citizens who can be reintegrated back to the society,” she said.

Speaking on behalf of the families, Malam Musa Baba, appreciated the wife of the governor, adding that the gesture was unexpected but would go a long way in helping the families.

Baba assured that the money would be used judiciously for the purpose it was meant for.
