Kwara Assembly Commends Governor for Completing KWASU Osi Campus, Moves to Tackle Heart Disease
The Kwara State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Yakubu Danladi Salihu, held a significant plenary session on Wednesday, during the proceedings, the Assembly expressed gratitude to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for completing the Kwara State University (KWASU) campus in Osi, Ekiti Local Government Area, a project long-awaited by residents of Kwara South Senatorial District.
Hon. Abolarin Ganiyu Gabriel brought forward a matter of public importance, revisiting the efforts to establish the Osi campus.
He recalled that in past sessions, lawmakers raised concerns over the abandoned project. “Today, KWASU’s Osi campus is a reality, thanks to our responsible leader, Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, who has kept his promise,” Hon. Abolarin said.
The Assembly recognized the efforts of both the 9th and 10th Legislatures, who worked persistently for the project’s revival.
Members directed the House Committee on Education to conduct oversight on both the Osi and Ilesha-Baruba campuses to ensure smooth operations as academic activities resume.
In another development, the House deliberated on a motion led by Hon. Owolabi Olatunde Razaq (Share/Oke-Ode) focusing on heart disease prevention in Kwara State.
The motion emphasized creating awareness on coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, and heart failure—issues becoming more prevalent across age groups.

He advocated for educational campaigns on symptoms like shortness of breath, chest pain, and rapid weight gain, as well as the importance of managing risk factors such as smoking and unhealthy diets.
The Assembly unanimously passed resolutions to:
Commend the Governor for his dedication to health sector improvements and quality care for all citizens.
Urge the Ministry of Health to develop primary healthcare programs for monitoring and managing hypertension and other cardiovascular risks.
Direct the Ministry of Health and the Primary Health Care Development Agency to institute comprehensive health campaigns to educate citizens on heart disease risks and symptoms.
