Dangote Cement Boosts Community Support, Donates to Orphanage in Kogi

 

Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana Plant, has demonstrated its commitment to community development through a series of activities during this year’s Sustainability Week in Kogi State.

The company provided essential donations and carried out public awareness campaigns, reinforcing its dedication to sustainable development.

Speaking on the initiative, Dr. Eseosa Ighile, Head of Sustainability at Dangote Cement Plc, Obajana, noted that the company used the event to engage with local communities and offer support to those in need.

“Obajana Sustainability Champions visited the Ministry of Mercy orphanage in Lokoja, providing essential supplies, food items, and spending quality time with the children and residents.

“The day was filled with fun activities, including games, and the orphanage management expressed their deep gratitude for our contributions,” she said.

Ighile added that the initiative not only fostered a strong bond between Dangote Cement and the orphanage but also boosted employee morale through active community service.

Engr. Azad Nawabuddin, Plant Director of the Obajana Plant, described the 2024 Sustainability Week as impactful, emphasizing the alignment with this year’s theme, “Sustainable Cities and Communities” (SDG 11). He stated that the activities focused on engaging employees and stakeholders while delivering positive outcomes.

“This year’s celebration was packed with activities involving employee and stakeholder engagement, as well as charity outreach programs. Each day focused on a unique theme, engaging various stakeholders and delivering positive results,” Nawabuddin remarked.

In addition, the company’s Corporate Communications Department highlighted the educational aspect of Sustainability Week, where youths were sensitized on climate change and health issues. Dr. Igazeuma Okoroba, Head of Sustainability, reiterated the company’s dedication to supporting local communities.

He said “This year’s Sustainability Week provided another opportunity to express our commitment to humanity by sharing our sustainability message and supporting the residents of our host communities.”
