UNILORIN 39th Convocation: VC urges 12,042 graduands to be problem solvers
The Vice Chancellor, University of Ilorin, Prof Wahab Egbewole has urged the 12,042 graduating students of the institution to be problem solvers and agent of change in the society.
Speaking at the 39th Convocation ceremony of the University, Prof. Egbewole reminded the students that essence of life is to make impact and add value.
According to him, our nation is greatly challenged and needs problem solvers, innovative and people with the capacity for value addition which your training here offers you. You must, therefore, hit the grand running
“You need to understand that this occasion sets you up for unavoidable societal expectations to deliver and add value in your corner to yet a great nation.
“Do not be complacent. Utilise the knowledge you have gained to maintain and build more connections. Apply the knowledge you have acquired to improve yourselves and contribute your quota to human progress.”
The Vice-Chancellor urged the graduating students to use their newly gained knowledge and skills to contribute positively to the society.
He urged them to make their light to shine and guide the world, saying “the degree the earn in itself is not the end but a comfortable ground to stand and compete globally.
“Your must be deliberate about learning and seek for more knowledge in your fields.”
Prof Egbewole said the university will be inaugurating 9 projects completed by his administration, which included Faculty of Law Library, Faculty of Law Professorial Suite, Moot Court, Home Economics Building among others.
Also speaking the Pro-Chancellor of the Council, Surveyor Abiodun Aluko said the University of Ilorin is adjudged to have the highest number of foreign students in Nigeria for the 2023 admission exercise and also the most preferred institution.
He said that the establishment of the National Education Loans Fund (NELFUND) scheme remains one of the best developments in the nation’s education sector in recent times.
“The scheme, which has effectively commenced with the disbursement of loans to thousands of students in tertiary institutions nationwide, is undoubtedly a great relief to many struggling students and their parents.
He assured President Bola Tinubu of the Council’s determination to introduce and promote innovative ideas that will take this University to greater heights.
“We shall mobilise human and material resources, both from within and outside the institution, to ensure that the vision of the founding fathers is not only sustained but also robustly boosted enabling the University to continue contributing maximally to national development ” he added.
