Bauchi SSG Chides Commissioners Over Negligence, lackadaisical attitude

Mr Ibrahim Kashim, the Secretary to the Bauchi state government, on Wednesday, chided the commissioners and top government officials in the state over their negligence and refusal to attend public activities in the state.

Kashim chided the commissioners and other government officials over their lackadaisical attitude at attending functions during the opening of a 3-day sensitisation workshop for commissioners, Special Advisers, permanent secretaries and top government officials in the state.

According to him, Gov. Bala Mohammed has also been expressing his displeasure toward this attitude.

He pointed out tthat such attitude has to be checked and curtailed henceforth.

The SSG  was furiously reacting to the low turnout of the commissioners present at the event which he said, was purposely organised for them where only 12 out of 24 commissioners were present while he was declaring the event open.

“It is disheartening that when I looked at the seat reserved for the Commissioners, I could only count eight of them out of the 24 commissioners we have in the state.

“This is not good enough, the programme is meant for them and they are not here. Let their colleagues who are here call those who are not here to make it here.

“The Permanent Secretary, Establishment Matters should call each one of them on his or her mobile phone to attend this very important event.

“We will be here tomorrow and the day after so that we can have a comprehensive list of those who will be here and not so that we can present it to His Excellency.

“I had a lengthy discussion with him late yesterday and he also talked about our attitude of not attending programmes at all and with no justifiable reasons,” he said.

The SSG stressed that the present administration prioritised training and retraining of its members in order to have the best of results in governance.

He called on all the participants to pay attention to the papers that would be presented at the occasion.

Earlier, Mr Yahuza Adamu, the Head of Civil Service of the state, said that the workshop was necessitated by the fallout from the retreat held last year with the aim of improving service delivery in governance.

He said that the governor had emphasized that in order to move the state forward, this capacity building workshop must be organised from time to time to remind them of the milestone the government has reached and the need to do more.

“It is an opportunity for us to appraise ourselves and see how we can progress and proffer solutions to our problems in order to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people of the state generally.

“I want to use this opportunity to request you to kindly use your phones to inform your colleagues that are not here to please come quickly, the programme is for all of us,” he said.
