Governorship Candidate Withdraws Few Hours To Edo Guber
Kennedy Iyere, the Accord Party governorship candidate for the upcoming Edo Gubernatorial election, has officially withdrawn just hours before the polls, citing a desire to address Nigeria’s pressing social and economic challenges, particularly food insecurity.
In a statement, Iyere emphasized his commitment to serving Nigeria at a higher level through his proposed ‘Food4All Initiative,’ which aims to ensure food security and create mass employment via the “One-Family-One-Farmer Scheme.”
He expressed his belief that this initiative would be more impactful than pursuing the governorship seat.
Iyere’s decision also stems from internal party conflicts, alleging a conspiracy involving his running mate, Bright Enabulele, aimed at undermining his candidacy.
He called on voters in Edo State to act peacefully and vote with integrity, stressing the importance of equitable power rotation across the state’s senatorial districts.
Looking forward, Iyere pledged to focus on national development and assist the federal government in creating a roadmap for economic inclusion, with social intervention programs targeting youth engagement and deradicalization.
He stated, “My focus is no longer on the governorship seat but on a higher and bigger portfolio than a Governor.”
