Jewish Student Brutally Beaten at University of Michigan

A brutal attack on a 19-year-old Jewish student near the University of Michigan’s Ann Arbor campus has left the school in shock.

The victim, whose identity remains confidential, was reportedly confronted by a group of six individuals who inquired about his religious affiliation on Saturday.

Upon confirming he was Jewish, the assailants allegedly knocked him to the ground, beat him, and spat on him before fleeing the scene.

“I have communicated with the University of Michigan police staff, and our goal is to discuss safety over the next few weeks,” Ann Arbor Police Department Chief Andre C. Anderson said in a statement.

“There is absolutely no place for hate or ethnic intimidation in the City of Ann Arbor. Our department stands against antisemitism and all acts of bias-motivated crimes.

We are committed to vigorously investigating this and other hate-motivated incidents, and we will work with the county prosecutor’s office to aggressively prosecute those who are responsible.”

University of Michigan President Dr. James Harper addressed the school’s Jewish student body in an email Monday morning, stating, “We are deeply disturbed by this reprehensible act of violence.

Our institution stands firmly against antisemitism and all forms of discrimination. We are working closely with local law enforcement to ensure the safety of our students and to bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Since October 7, antisemitism has swept college campuses both across America and the world. The University of Michigan has been a hotbed for Jewish vitriol with several reported incidents of vandalism targeting Jewish fraternity houses and verbal harassment during pro-Hamas campus rallies.

Meanwhile, university police are increasing patrols in areas frequented by students, particularly around religious centers and student housing.

Michigan’s Anti-Discrimination Coalition local chapter has offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the identification of the assailants. Anyone with information about the attack is urged to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. (JBN)
