Kwara Community Cries Out for Urgent Govt’s Intervention on Deplorable 3.7km Road

The Elerinjare community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State has appealed to the state government to address the worsening condition of the 3.7-kilometre Idofian-Elerinjare road, which has been in a deplorable state for years.

Speaking on behalf of the community, Oba Tajudeen Olanrewaju Bello (Olaitan II), the Olushabi of Elerinjare Ibobo land, expressed concern over the hardships faced by residents, especially during the rainy season.

“It is always a challenge yearly for indigenes who travel far and near to access the agrarian community as rain usually floods the way leading to the area, thereby forcing indigenes to park their vehicles along the roadside for days without gaining access to the community, while others would rather turn back,” he said.

The community, through a statement issued by Abdulhakeem Garba, Publicity Secretary of the Elerinjare Ibobo Descendants Union (EIDU), disclosed that the road has been awarded for construction twice, first under former Governor Bukola Saraki in 2003 and later during the administration of former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed. However, the project has never been completed.

The road, when constructed, would benefit not only Elerinjare but also neighbouring agrarian communities like Oko-Okuta and Okoya, and serve as a vital link to Ojoku in Oyun Local Government Area and Offa in Offa Local Government Area.

Oba Bello further revealed that the community has resorted to self-help over the years, with residents contributing to maintain the road and fund key projects such as schools, electricity, and boreholes since 1984.

Despite their political support for the All Progressives Congress (APC), the people of Elerinjare are frustrated by the lack of development in their area.

“We are, therefore, appealing to our able Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, to consider our plight and intervene urgently,” the statement added.
